All Aboard the Kraken’s Call: A Deal, a Crew, and a Chaotic New Adventure

Over the last several years, Tinael and Pogu had earned quite the reputation all over Eorzea, the Far East, Old Sharlayan, and they were even becoming more well known in Yok Tural for their ability to quickly procure and deliver goods from anywhere to anywhere at a competitive price and without using a single Aetherite. However, because of this newfound fame and respect, more and more people were wanting their services, especially all over Yok Tural and paying for a ship to not only carry the two across the sea but to take on their cargo was becoming increasingly expensive.

After an off-handed comment from Tinael of "If only we had our own boat...", Pogu got an idea. Buying a boat of the size they needed was out of the question. It was far too expensive and, with the cost of upkeep for Earnor, their Chocobo who had grown to be a rather picky eater, as well as making sure Tinael's wife and father-in-law didn't want for gil, the odds of that changing were slim to none. So, what if they partnered with a crew? They could cut the captain in on a portion of the profit and would have a ship for them to use when they needed it! So, without delay, the two set off for Limsa Lominsa. With the discovery of the new world across the sea, numerous boats and ships came in to port daily looking to fairy passengers from Limsa to Tuliollal. Surely, the two would have their pick of a captain looking for more stable income for their crew instead of competing with other ships for passengers.

Once Tinny and Pogu got to Limsa Lominsa, they headed right to the docks and, as has become usual, the area that used to be filled with people loading and unloading cargo was now filled with people carrying luggage and members of different crews busking on crates promoting their ship to attract passengers. Of course, there was still cargo coming in and out, but those were generally only coming from the larger barges in the area that were built for such things. As the two started walking in to the area, Pogu looked to Tinael. "Okay, stupid. Here's the deal. We're gonna look for someone who is willing to do the job at a good price and not just the first cute boy you see who calls to..."

"YOU THERE, LASS!" called a voice from off to the right.

Tinny pointed to herself. "Me?"

"Yes you!" The voice came from a burly male Lalafell who was dressed in WAY too much armor to be a part of a ship's crew. "You look like a woman who is in need of safe passage from here to Yok Tural! Am I correct?"

"Well, yeah, but... ah'm nae on no vacation though... Ah'm actually lookin' fer sommuns tae.."

"Well, whatever your need is, my dear woman, I'm sure we can provide! Our normal fee for passengers is only one thousand gil plus another two hundred and fifty for your little furry friend there, but I think we can make a deal!"

Pogu rears his head back in offense at being called a pet...

"Tha's a decent price alright but ah'm nae lookin' fer..."

"I'll tell you what!" the Lalafell interrupted. "How about you come aboard and meet our captain! She'll get you set up with exactly what you need! Welcome aboard the Kraken's Call!" And, with that, the woman jumped off her crate and took Tinael by the hand, pulling her forward toward a decent sized ship. It wasn't the nicest one at the docks by a long shot, but it had a certain... charm to it.

Leaning in a bit, Pogu whispered to Tinael "Just play along and I'm going to talk to you in your brain. Repeat only what I say, got it?"

"Got it. Pereat only wot ye say."

"What was that, friend? Oh, nevermind. By the by, my name is Darientaru Taru! You can call me Dar though. Most people do. I'm actually one of the crew promoters on the Kraken's Call!"

Fitting... She sure does know how to talk a lot... -

Pogu spoke telepathically to Tinny.

"Fittin'! Ye sure do talk a lot!"

Pogu facepalms...

Soon enough, Tinael and Pogu were escorted aboard the ship and it was just as... charming on the inside as she was on the outside. There was numerous crew mates walking throughout the ship doing various things but none of them even gave Tinael and Pogu a second glance. It wasn't long after that Dar came to a door on the main deck at the back of the ship. "This is our captains' quarters! I think you're going to like them." After opening the door, Dar allowed Tinael and Pogu to enter first. The room was modestly decorated. A few curtains covering the windows and a large table with a map on it were took up the back of the room. To the left was a large bed with a massive chest at the foot. The floor had several rugs laid out but they had clearly seen better days. Sitting at a square table off to the right was two others, a Miqo'te woman with purple hair and a silver haired Hyur male.

"Captains! I found us a passenger!"

"Ummm... actually..." Tinny tried to interject.

"GOOD ON YA, Darientaru!" The blue haired woman nearly leapt from her chair while her compatriot was much more... resolved in his rise. "WELCOME ABOARD, DEAR! Come on in! My name is Captain Oliver and this is my husband, Captain Atom! Please, sit! How can the crew of the Kraken's Call help you? First time to Yok Tural? Need a tour guide? Just send out the call and the Kraken can provide!"
Atom sighs a bit with a smile. "You'll have to excuse her. My better half can get a bit... excited when it comes to taking on passengers." Approaching Tinael and Pogu, he extends a hand.

Glaring a bit, Pogu flops over Tinael's shoulder and takes Atom's hand, shaking it a bit.
"Ummm, thanks but, ah think there's a bit o'a misunderstandin'..." Tinael looks to the two with a soft smile. "First off, yer ship has TWO captains? Like, how'sat work when ye havetae make sommuns walk tha plank? D'ye jess play rock, cutters, paper?"

Tinael... focus... -

"OH! Right! Ummm, actually, ah was lookin' tae maybe strike a bargain with ye, f'yer so inclined!"
Pogu rolls his eyes and sighs. This was going to be painful...

It took a bit of effort to keep Tinael and Oliver on track as the two already were calling each other best friends, but, eventually, Tinael was able to explain her proposal. She and Pogu get the clients and transport the cargo from it's starting point to the docks of their respective city-state, and the crew of the Kraken's Call would load it all on to the ship, transport it across the sea, and unload it so Tinael and Pogu could get it to it's final destination. Pogu desperately tried to barter a better deal but Tinael and Oliver agreed on a 50/50 split before he could get 2 words in. And then, with a simple handshake, the deal was made.

"Well, I guess the only thing to do now is welcome you to the crew, Tinny!" Atom smiled.
Oliver jumped in with a joyful smile "OH! And we should introduce you to the crew as well! I'd hate for them to think you were trying to stow away on the ship and toss you overboard!" She then ran over to the door and nearly bashed it in with her shoulder, throwing the door wide open. "CREW! WE GOT A CONTRACT!"
